Rules and values
At CARE we are committed to creating an environment that facilitates learning and productive discussions for all participants. To guarantee that, we would like to stress a few key principles that we ask every participant to follow:
- Respect the diversity of opinion: We value critical thinking and constant questioning of our actions. We strive to create a space for thoughtful discussions, but accept that there is a possibility of thoughtful disagreements.
- Don’t be an asshole: Express your opinions in a way that is compassionate and respectful towards other participants, respecting their boundaries. At the same time we strive for discussions that make us uncomfortable, challenge our thinking, make us reconsider held beliefs.
- Look out for one another and try to help if you are able to.
The following behavior will not be tolerated:
- Offensive, disruptive, or discriminatory actions (including actions toward gender identity, sexual orientation, beliefs, race, ethnicity, disability, citizenship or age) or communication.
- Unwanted sexual attention, or sexual harassment of any kind.
We understand that communicating online is difficult and prone to creating assumptions about the interlocutor’s motives or beliefs. We ask you to assume positive intentions and allow yourself space to discuss behaviour or opinions that you find troubling.
If you’re asked to stop a behaviour that’s causing a problem for someone, we expect you to stop immediately.
By registering to attend the event, you confirm that you will adhere to this Code of Conduct, which applies at the conference and all related social events.
